How To Create Engaging Content Leading Up To Book Release
Writing a tabletop skirmish game is a big challenge but your work will really begin when it comes time to market and sell it. A pre-launch phase typically falls between 3-6 months as you create a buzz about your book and pique the interest of potential players. As you get closer to launch, you'll ramp up the activities, increase the frequency of your posts, implement targeted ads and set up pre-order options.
It’s only 8 weeks to go until Population Z arrives, so now it’s time to intensify my social media content leading up to the release. If you're working on a Tabletop Skirmish Game and looking for ways to promote it during the pre-launch phase, I think you'll find the next couple of months interesting. You can watch in real time as I use the information in this blog post to promote Population Z across different social media platforms. Here are 10 areas I’ll be working on that will help you to launch your game too …
1. Teasers and Sneak Peeks:
Share snippets of artwork, game mechanics, or short excerpts from the rulebook. This gives your audience a taste of what's to come and can spark curiosity.
2. Behind-the-Scenes:
Offer a behind-the-scenes look at the development process. This could include photos or videos of playtesting sessions, design sketches, or interviews with the creative team.
3. Interactive Polls:
Engage your audience by asking questions related to game elements. For example, you could ask them to vote on potential cover art, character names, or choose between different scenarios. This not only involves your audience but also gives them a sense of ownership.
4. Storytelling and Lore:
Share background stories or lore related to the game world. This could be in the form of short narratives, character profiles, or historical context. Building a rich narrative around your game can captivate players' imaginations.
5. Tutorial Videos:
Create short tutorial videos demonstrating key aspects of the game. This could include how to set up the game board, explanations of different factions or units, or even sample gameplay. Visual content tends to perform well on social media.
6. Contests and Giveaways:
Host contests or giveaways where participants can win exclusive content, such as early access to the rulebook, signed copies, or even custom game pieces. Contests can generate excitement and encourage sharing.
7. Community Spotlight:
Showcase the community's enthusiasm by highlighting fan-created content. This could include fan art, custom scenarios, or battle reports. This not only recognises your community but also fosters a sense of camaraderie.
8. Countdown Posts:
As the launch date approaches, create a countdown series to keep the excitement building. This could include daily or weekly posts highlighting different aspects of the game.
9. Engagement Posts:
Create posts that encourage engagement, such as asking fans to share their favourite tabletop gaming memories, strategies, or predictions for the new game. Responding to comments and fostering a sense of community is key.
10. Announcement Graphics:
Design eye-catching graphics announcing key milestones, such as the official release date, pre-order availability, or any special promotions.
How To Create Engaging Content Leading Up To Book Release
Remember to use a mix of content types to keep your social media feeds dynamic and interesting. Adjust the tone to best fit each platform and try to maintain a regular posting schedule to keep your audience engaged throughout the lead-up to the launch.
The build up to launch is a fun process, so enjoy it, be creative, work hard, stay consistent, and you’ll have the makings of a successful tabletop skirmish game release!
